Before Royal Worcester & Spode had declared bankruptcy in November of 2008 the manufacturing of approx. 90% of their remaining "English Bone China" was moved to a facility in India (First used by Queen's Fine Bone China and later Wedgwood for their boxed sets of Nantucket and Strawberry Vine). The Bone China Patterns manufactured in India were "Trapnell Sprays"-Originally a finely hand enameled and lavishly gilt pattern made for Thomas Goode & Co, Fleur De Lys Gold, Sheffield, Stafford White, Christmas Rose, and several pieces in the Stafford Flowers line.
Portmeirion has purchased Royal Worcester & Spode (only the brand names and pattern rights- the Stoke and Worcester factories are now entirely shuttered) their decision to move production back to the UK or continue producing the the fine bone china patterns has not been decided. Sadly, even if the patterns do return to the U.K. the quality will never be the same. Although the wares will be Marked Royal Worcester or Spode they will in fact be only Portmeirion china. The age of Spode and Royal Worcester, as well as all that they stood for, have come to a sad end.
